Who can use the fab?
Like the rest of MIT.nano, the fab is open to:
- The internal MIT community—professors, students, staff, and researchers from any department.
- External users, including members of the MIT.nano Consortium and individuals from academia, industry, government, and other organizations.
Accessing Fab.nano
First, follow these steps to become a user.
Once you are a trained user of the facility and have reviewed the user policies, you can build a process for what you would like to accomplish. During this time, MIT.nano tool specialists will guide you in choosing the best tools for your specific project. Once your process has been approved by the Processing Technology Committee (PTC), you will be trained on the necessary equipment and can begin working in the cleanroom. Submit your process for review here.
Operating hours
MIT.nano fabrication facilities are open:
Monday – Thursday: 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Friday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM
24-Hour access for the fab
24/7 access is designed for experienced users who are very familiar with the working in the fab. It is expected that a 24-hour user will not only know his/her own process, but also be familiar with the cleanrooms in general and know how to respond to all situations that might be encountered after hours. These users must also have completed the Fab.nano wet chemical processing training.
A separate training course is required for 24-hour access and can be found under Events & Trainings.
24-hour status is a privilege that can be revoked at any time for safety or fab protocol violations.
